Sanity

by Sonia Walter
we give
so they live

the aftermath,
our bloodbath

washing the streets,
while they sit in their seats

their thrones
built on our bones

marveling at their crown,
while our houses burn down

no end in sight
to cease our fright

only death,
our last breath

stops the pain
so we stay sane
