What originally began as a fun idea in my basement turned into this piece. I wanted to write something dramatic, something uplifting, something to distract from the monotony of quarantine life. When writing this piece, I tried starting each phrase by deciding the chord progression and moving from there to elaborate on the base notes for each instruments (my early composing was more spontaneous). Writing Fugue in C gave me both good practice in composing, and a good way to keep my mind off the worries of the pandemic.

I wrote the words and chords for this piece after attending a meeting for the Sunrise Movement, whose purpose is, as stated by the movement, is "to stop climate change and create millions of good jobs in the process... [to] end the corrupting influence of fossil fuel executives on our politics, and elect leaders who stand up for the health and wellbeing of all people." I did a lot of the writing while looking out my bedroom window at the trees, the birds, and all the other bits of nature that we can see in our daily lives, and worrying about just how easily we could lose them.
