forget-me-not
By Gwen Galvin
You looked so exhausted, laying there in the woods.
Your eyes were glassy, staring into the sky.
Your mouth was slightly agape, with a small stream of drool seeping through the corner of your mouth.
Someone had turned off the lights in your head.
You were filthy.
The earth and your blood covered you.
Your arm was twisted.
I dont think it's supposed to bend that way.
All the gunk had ruined your shirt.
It used to be white, and pretty.
I stared at you for a while.
you were beautiful.
I think I was in love with you once.
I don't remember.
I don't remember a lot of things.
But I think I remember you.
Dirt and vine had begun to hide your body.
I think it was trying to take you away from me.
That made me mad.
I wanted you.
I promised I would find you again.
I promised I would make all of your problems go away.
I promised I would clean your shirt.
I'm sorry it took so long to come back.
I couldn't remember where you were hiding.
I will stay with you until the earth grows over me too.
I will wait with you.
I will wait forever if I have to.
I know you love me.
I love you too.
