a hand extended
from beyond the darkness
calloused by honest labor
(take the hand)
to take the firm outstretched life line
in my own trembling hand
the chance to walk away
from cruel isolation
from the suffocating embrace of the dark
from an echo that never quite reaches the ear
but to take the hand
to accept the healing
means living in the light
(take the hand Take it)
in the light i can be seen
(don’t you want to get better)
in the light i have to see it
(aren’t you sick of living like this)
all the scars and scrapes and bruises
all the damage
(Take the Hand)
the light does not hide the undesirable
(will you ever let yourself heal?)
...
this is why they say you are beyond saving
Artist Statement: We as human beings find comfort in familiarity. Often times when someone is struggling with a mental disorder, regardless of how much they want their lives to change, finding it within themselves to break old habits or open themselves up to new ways to cope can be a near impossible task. Wishing things were better v. taking the steps to make things better are two drastically different things.
